Sign the Graz Declaration for Climate Protection in the Built Environment!
Another conference in the SBE series has come to an end. Our colleagues in Graz (Austria) have done an amazing job and we are proud to share the concrete outcome of this conference:
Graz Declaration for Climate Protection in the Built Environment.
“An intact natural environment is not only vital for humankind but also provides the basis for further social and economic development. For more than 30 years, the international scientific community has provided a strong body of evidence on the increasingly high atmospheric concentrations of man-made greenhouse gases (GHG) and the need to reduce these in order to limit the damages and risks caused by global warming. The UNFCCC has endorsed this and has started international processes for collectively reducing these harmful GHG-emissions. However, the most recent IPCC report1 conclusively shows that much more action is urgently needed if global warming is to be kept within 1.5°C increase. These actions must occur in a much shorter time-span”.
The above is the intro of the Declaration that, once more, should give us all a sense of urgency towards what it takes to be done (also) in the Built Environment against global warming.
As WSBE | World Sustainable Built Environment BEYOND 2020 conference Organisers, we gladly transfer this initiative to the global community. Next June, in Gothenburg, we will be happy to give our Austrian colleagues the opportunity to report on the results and progress made in research and other activities.
In the meantime, you can read and support the Graz Declaration with your signature and spread it forward to your network.
See you in Gothenburg June 2020!
