Beyond 2020
By 2050, 68% of the world’s population will live in cities, according to the United Nations…
And Tuesday 1st January 2030 is the deadline for the built environment to contribute to the fulfilment of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Bringing the best minds together, BEYOND 2020 is our opportunity to create the missing link between the UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2030 and the built environment.
We will cross the boundaries of knowledge, share top-level expertise and merge it to help shape the future of the built environment, together.
Beyond 2020 is part of The World Sustainable Built Environment (WSBE) conference series, the world’s largest conference on sustainability in the built environment taking place every three years. BEYOND 2020 was initially supposed to take place on 6-9 June 2020 in Gothenburg (Sweden), but had to be cancelled due to the global COVID-19 situation. The conference will now take place online on 2-4 November 2020.
The mission of the conference is to link the global building sector to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and to define its role towards the achievement of 2030 objectives.
Holger Wallbaum, conference host, professor of Sustainable Building, Chalmers University of Technology:
Developing new, innovative solutions to meet the current climate challenges are only some of the issues faced by the built environment today. Businesses and researchers alike must address how they will create and form cities to be resilient to future climate challenges. They must seek out new strategies on how to avoid exhaustion of the limited natural resources we have while building new, affordable housing for a growing population. They must ensure the policymakers of today pave the way for a better and more efficient future, designing and giving hope to a new tomorrow.
