Let us introduce you to our next KEYNOTE SPEAKERS!
The city of Hong Kong, being a compact and high-density city, faces the challenge of how to become a more livable place in the decades ahead. Through strategic territorial planning and area-based land use planning, the city strives to optimise investments in the utilisation of land and infrastructure development. Furthermore, it aims to provide sufficient land and space to meet the housing, community and economic development needs of its society through the established planning mechanisms. In doing all this, Hong Kong needs to make sure to strike an optimal balance between development and conservation, in order to preserve its pristine nature and rich biodiversity for future generations.
As the city representatives participating in BEYOND 2020 have expressed, “Hong Kong being a unique and vibrant city in the world, we are pleased to present our experience from various perspectives in driving for a sustainable city and community – UN Sustainable Development Goal 11. As the host of the last edition of World SBE Conference in 2017, we have a particular bonding with BEYOND 2020 and would spare no effort in supporting this great event. Hong Kong is small, but the difference we make could be huge”.
Under the theme of “The state of sustainable built environment in Hong Kong” we will have the pleasure to listen to the following three keynote speakers.
Michael WONG Wai-lun is Secretary for Development at the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Mr WONG joined the Administrative Service in August 1985. Before his current position, he served as Permanent Secretary for Development (Planning and Lands) from August 2015 to June 2017. Mr WONG holds a Bachelor Degree of Social Sciences from the University of Hong Kong and a Bachelor Degree of Laws from the University of London (External Programme).
In his speech “Driving for Sustainable Growth”, Michael WONG Wai-lun will explore how various government policies are bringing Hong Kong’s built environment to the next level.
CHAN Ka-Kui is Chairman of Construction Industry Council.
He is a quantity surveyor with over 40 years of experience in the construction field. Previously, he was the Chairman of the Construction Industry Training Authority and Vice-President of Hong Kong Construction Association. Mr CHAN is a Fellow Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors and an Honorary Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers and the Hong Kong Institute of Project Management. He is an Honorary Fellow and a Court Member of the City University of Hong Kong.
In his speech “Reforming Construction Industry towards greener, more efficient and of better quality” he will present the latest innovations in Hong Kong’s construction industry.
Last but not least, CHEUNG Hau-wai is one of the founding directors of Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) and now Chairman of the Council.
Mr CHEUNG’s key focus is on how green building design should interface with smart city design, infrastructure and the whole built environment. This is very closely linked to HKGBC’s goal to retrofit and re-commission a large stock of existing buildings in the city, in order to make them more sustainable and energy-saving. This is part of a worldwide campaign to reach the target of COP21.
In his speech “Fostering a Sustainable High-Density City”, he will share the evolvement of a high-dense city into a sustainable, green and healthy metropolis.
Join us to listen to Michael WONG Wai-lun, CHAN Ka-Kui and CHEUNG Hau-wai 2nd November.
We look forward to meeting you at BEYOND 2020 online conference.
